We heart Coeur de pirate!

If you don’t often listen to francophone music, get ready to change your habits!  Let me tell you: your mp3 player will become bilingual once you hear Coeur de pirate.

Coeur de pirate is actually Béatrice Martin, a 19-year-old from Quebec who, since 2007, writes her own music inspired by a mix of the French chanson tradition (think Jacques Brel), pop, and folk.

Her career has already led her to be part of the band Bonjour Brumaire and to play at the FrancoFolies de Montreal and at the Osheaga Festival.

Her music became excessively popular through her myspace page and, if you check out her new music video for her song “Ensemble,” you’ll understand why.

During the next few months, Coeur de pirate will tour Europe, making stops in France, Belgium, Switzerland, and England.  Closer to home, she will play in Ottawa (July 1st FREE!), Dawson City (July 17th), Guelph (July 24th), and all over Quebec (visit her site for all the details).

This summer, we’ll introduce you to other bilingual and francophone bands and musicians.
