Featured Student

March's featured student is Annie-Claude Léveillé.

Annie-Claude is 17 and in grade 11 at Sainte-Marie secondary school. She lives on a farm in Earlton (Ontario), where she often works. She has had a passion for the arts since she was very little.

She likes to do scrapbooking with her mother. Two years ago, she participated in a recycl’art contest where she devised a purse made with pop-can tabs. She won the audience choice award. She is very creative and enjoys challenges. Furthermore, she developed a passion for photography. She took a photography class at school and, during her trip to Italy, got to practice her skills and take wonderful pictures.

She doesn’t yet know what she will do later on, but she is opening as many doors as possible by living various enriching experiences in both official languages.

Favourite music/artist: Rien entre les deux oreilles by kamakazi. Other favourite artist: Marie-Mai

Favourite food: Fondue (with my family, and, for desert crème brûlée (during my trip to Italy) (Yum)

Favourite book: Le journal d’Aurélie Laflamme (This series, written by India Desjardins, is one of my favourites because it is full of humour, romances, as well as great adventures)

Favourite way to practice French: I like to express myself in French and in writing. Among other things, I participated in the literary contest “Mordus des Mots,” where I had to write a detective story. My short story was chosen among many submissions and will be published in an anthology by David Editions. Isn’t that exciting? Also, since September, I have been participating in every French for the Future contest. It’s a good challenge in French, which I enjoy.

Why she thinks it’s important to speak French: It is important to learn French because it is one of Canada’s official languages. For me, it is the most beautiful language in the world! I am currently in grade 11 at Sainte-Marie catholic school and, later, I plan to continue my studies in French. French is part of my life and culture and I’m very proud of that!

Best experience “en français”: I was able to develop my writing skills in my French class (FRA 3U) with Mme
Goulet. I had the chance to write my first novel as well as a detective story. I would like to thank my teacher who allowed and encouraged me to bloom as a writer.

The coolest Francophone country is, in her opinion: Canada!! I’m very proud to be a Canadian citizen because I appreciate Canada’s natural beauty and cultural diversity.

How she will use her French skills in the future: I will continue my studies in French and I will get a job where I can put my French skills to use.

Where she would like to go: I would like to go to Haiti to help people in need.
